Billy Jess Welborn, a long-time resident of Meeker, Oklahoma was born on October 3, 1933, in Meeker.

He departed this life on February 14, 2024, at his home in Meeker, at the age of 90 years. Bill was the son of Earnest and Ethel Welborn.

He grew up in Meeker and attended Meeker Schools. He was a 1951 graduate of Meeker High School.

After graduating from Meeker High School, Bill was employed by Oklahoma Natural Gas (ONG) for fifteen years. He then owned and operated Propane Companies in the Shawnee and Meeker areas for thirty years. After that, he went on to farming and ranching operations.

Bill was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Meeker, where he served as a deacon and a Sunday school teacher for 70 years. Bill was truly dedicated to his bible studies and to teaching his Sunday school class. Bill spent hours, studying his bible and preparing each week’s lessons.

Bill married his high school sweetheart, LaDonna Shaw on June 10, 1951. Together, the couple raised two children, Debbie and Billy, and made their home in Meeker.

Bill was preceded in death by his father, Earnest Welborn; his mother, Ethel Welborn and his stepmother, Velta Welborn.

Those left to cherish his memory are: his loving wife of more than 72 years, LaDonna (Shaw) Welborn; his children, Debbie Lowe and her husband, Danny and Billy Welborn and his wife, Shallon; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Derek Lowe and his wife, Kristal and their children, Nick and Zach; Delayna Pearcy and her husband, Brent and their children, Breanna and Bryce; David Lowe and his wife Jacqui and their daughter,Amaya; Kelli Simpson and her husband, Mark and their children, Cole and Haley; KyleWelborn and his wife, Rebecca and their children, Ella and Reagan; three siblings, Linda Kincaid and her husband James, Teresa Simpson and her husband, Ed, and DeWayneWelborn and host of many other relatives and friends.

The family would like to thank the wonderful people at Heartland Hospice for their loving care and support.

A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at the First Baptist Church of Meeker with Reverand Joe Jones officiating. Burial will immediately follow at New Hope Cemetery in Meeker. The family will accept guests from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, February 16, 2024, at the First Baptist Church of Meeker.
